Professor Dr. Charles Van Marrewijk

Biography

Charles van Marrewijk is a Professor at Utrecht University School of Economics, specializing in International Trade, International Macroeconomics, Regional Science, Economic Growth, Geographical Economics, Economic Development, and Agglomeration. He has extensive academic training, having studied at Erasmus University Rotterdam and Purdue University. With a career spanning several esteemed institutions, van Marrewijk has previously held positions at the University of Groningen, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and Xi'an Jiaotong - Liverpool University. He served as Head of the Department at Utrecht University since 2022 and has played a significant role in various research institutes, including the International Institute Housing Urban Development and the Tjalling Charles Koopmans Institute. Van Marrewijk is an accomplished author, with numerous publications in top journals and over ten books published by Cambridge University Press and Oxford University Press. His contributions to the field have had a substantial academic impact, and he is currently (co-)editor of numerous international academic journals.
