Charles J. Werth is the Bettie Margaret Smith Chair in Environmental Health Engineering at the Fariborz Maseeh Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He joined the UT Austin faculty in August 2014 after spending 17 years on the faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Werth holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University, an M.S. in Environmental Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering with a minor in Chemistry from Stanford University. His teaching and research focus primarily on the fate and transport of pollutants in the environment, along with the development of innovative catalytic technologies for drinking water treatment and the mitigation of environmental impacts associated with energy production. Throughout his career, he has received several recognitions, including service on the USEPA’s Science Advisory Board, being named a Fellow of the Association of Environmental Science and Engineering Professors, and receiving the Wiley Research Fellow title at the Department of Energy’s Environmental Molecular Science Laboratory. He is a two-time recipient of the Editor’s Choice Paper Award from Environmental Science and Technology and has also received the Paper Award from ES&T Engineering.
