Dr. Charles Wira

Biography

Charles Wira is an associate professor of emergency medicine at Yale School of Medicine, with a specialization in stroke emergency critical care. He is board certified in internal medicine and emergency medicine. Dr. Wira has been instrumental in various influential research areas including stroke, sepsis, and cardiac arrest. His research has led to changes in the American Heart Association guidelines regarding hypothermia treatment for cardiac arrest. He has contributed significantly to clinical trials, with involvement in the Neurological Emergencies Treatment Trials (NETT) and the Strategies Innovate Emergency Care Clinical Trials Network (SIREN). Dr. Wira has also worked on state-wide stroke initiatives and policies aimed at improving stroke systems of care in Connecticut. As an educator, he has received recognition for his contributions to emergency and critical care education and serves as a research advisor to students and residents. Dr. Wira earned his MD from Dartmouth School of Medicine and completed his residency at Henry Ford Hospital.
