Biography

Charlie Beckett is the founding director of the Polis think-tank at the London School of Economics, focusing on research, debate, and international journalism. He leads the JournalismAI project and frequently comments on journalism and politics in the UK and internationally. Beckett has authored leading works, such as 'SuperMedia: Saving Journalism Save World' and 'WikiLeaks: News in the Networked Era', and has published research on journalism's emotional aspects, Artificial Intelligence, and terrorism reporting. Before joining LSE, he was a programme editor at ITN's Channel 4 News and worked for ten years as a senior producer and programme editor at BBC News. His specialism lies in the changing dynamics of journalism and its relationship with society and politics, particularly addressing issues around ethics, future news, and networked journalism. Beckett engages students through postgraduate courses and public lectures, exploring the role of media in modern society.
