Biography

Charlie O’Geen’s research investigates the utilization of existing site conditions and the use of building systems, opposing conventional building practices that materially consume resources. Unconventionally, O’Geen’s work moves beyond formal visual properties of design; his process weighs the potential conditions present at a building site, creating experiments to develop fully mature material systems that grow untapped resources found in sites and materials. O’Geen holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Architecture from SUNY Buffalo, as well as a Master of Architecture from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He was awarded a fellowship by the Kresge Foundation for research based in Detroit, MI. O’Geen has taught at institutions such as SUNY Buffalo, the University of Michigan, Lawrence Technological University, the Maryland Institute College of Art, the University of New Mexico, Texas Tech University, and Kendall College of Art and Design. He has worked in multiple design-build practices, managing construction projects in Canada, the Netherlands, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and the U.S.
