Biography

Charlle Sy is a Professor of Practice in the Systems Engineering Program at Cornell Engineering. He has served as a research fellow at the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at De La Salle University-Manila. His research interests include robust optimization and systems thinking. Dr. Sy developed an algorithmic framework known as Target-Oriented Robust Optimization (TORO), which integrates uncertainty into point decision-making while ensuring computational tractability. This framework has been extensively utilized in the design and planning of engineering systems, particularly in infrastructure network planning within the fields of energy, production, and water networks. He was awarded the 2023 Underwriters Laboratories ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women for his work on energy electrification.
