Biography

Charlotta Enerbäck is a professor at Linköping University. Her research focuses on psoriasis, a common skin disease affecting 3% of the population. This immunologically mediated autoimmune disorder occurs in genetically predisposed individuals and is characterized by psoriatic skin lesions, which show excessive proliferation and disturbed differentiation of epidermal cells along with new vessel formation in the underlying dermis. Despite these changes, the hallmark of psoriasis is the strict control of epithelial proliferation, distinguishing it from cancer. Enerbäck's research program is supported by a generous donation from the Ingrid Asp Foundation, aiming to improve the understanding of the pathogenesis of psoriasis and to find new therapy modalities. Her research group investigates disease mechanisms, including local and systemic immunological mechanisms, vascular formation, cell differentiation, apoptosis, and the genetic components related to psoriasis co-morbidities. A large and well-characterized patient material has been collected, consisting of plasma, serum, isolated leukocytes, skin biopsies, isolated keratinocytes, and DNA. Additionally, human cell lines and isolated primary cells are utilized in her studies.
