Biography

Charlotta Hedberg is a professor of Cultural Geography at Umeå University, focusing on migration and mobility, particularly international migration and rural migration. Her research relates to international labor migration, exemplified by Thai berry pickers in Sweden, analyzed through ethnographic research from a transnational and translocal perspective. Hedberg has conducted register data studies assessing the labor market careers of international migrants and internal migration within Sweden. Her research also examines the relationship between migration, place, and rural areas. Current research projects include 'Ignored Work: Intermediation of Temporary Migration to the 'New Green Norrland' (2025-2029) and 'Wild Berries Change' (WiBS): Sustainable Transition and Diversified Economies in Rural Sparse Areas (2022-2026). She has previously worked at the Department of Cultural Geography, Uppsala University, as well as the Department of Cultural Geography, Stockholm University.
