Biography

Charlotte Coles is a Professor of Breast Cancer Clinical Oncology at the University of Cambridge, holding additional roles as NIHR Research Professor and Director of CRUK RadNet Cambridge. She leads critical breast radiotherapy trials that have changed practices globally, particularly addressing hypofractionation policy and challenges related to health equity and gender in breast cancer treatment. Charlotte has spearheaded several major trials, including the Cambridge Breast IMRT Trial and the IMPORT Low trial, which established partial-breast radiotherapy as a safe alternative to whole-breast radiotherapy. Moreover, she oversees the IMPORT High trial, focusing on the efficacy of hypofractionated simultaneous integrated boost. As a significant figure in the FAST-Forward Trial Management Group, Charlotte has influenced practices regarding radiotherapy regimens. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she contributed to international breast radiotherapy guidelines. Her research efforts have been recognized with the NIHR Research Professorship and the prestigious Royal College of Radiologists’ Gold Medal. She is also an active editor, having served as Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Oncology from 2015 to 2021.
