Biography

Charlotte Hagen graduated with a Diploma in Mathematics from the University of Hamburg, Germany, in 2010. She went on to complete her PhD in Medical Physics at University College London (UCL) in 2014. During her PhD research, she co-developed x-ray phase contrast micro computed tomography scanners that operate with laboratory x-ray sources. After her PhD, she spent four years as a postdoctoral researcher at UCL, where she focused on advancing technology applications within medical physics. In 2018, she was awarded a Research Fellowship by the Royal Academy of Engineering and subsequently offered a proleptic Lectureship in Radiation Physics at UCL’s Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. In 2021, she was promoted to Principal Research Fellow and transferred to an academic track as an Associate Professor in 2024. Her research primarily emphasizes the development of new imaging methods and systems, particularly in x-ray computed tomography. From 2020 to 2023, she chaired the Athena SWAN committee for UCL’s Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering department, and in 2023, she became the department's Director of Research.
