Biography

Charlotte Ross is a Professor in Italian Gender Studies at the University of Oxford, where she is a Tutorial Fellow at Christ Church and a Lecturer at St John’s College. Her academic qualifications include a BA (Honours) in Italian English from Newnham College, Cambridge, an MSt in Italian Studies from Balliol College, Oxford, and a PhD in Italian Studies from the University of Warwick. Having previously held positions at the University of Birmingham as a Reader in Sexuality and Cultural Studies, she has been actively involved in various interdisciplinary projects, including the co-direction of the Queer Kinship Network. She also serves as a Senior Co-Editor for the journal Italian Studies and co-edits the Peter Lang book series Italian Modernities. Her work, which has been published in prominent international journals, has received support from funding bodies such as the British Academy, AHRC, and Leverhulme Trust. Additionally, Charlotte teaches on topics spanning 19th to 21st-century Italian literature and culture, supporting graduate students in their research on gender and sexuality in literature.
