Charlotte Terrell joined King's College London as a Lecturer in Contemporary Literature and Culture Theory in 2023 after holding a Junior Research Fellowship at Worcester College, Oxford. She completed her PhD in the English Department at the University of Sussex, having previously attended Queen Mary University of London for her BA and MA. Her research focuses on fiction and literary culture from the mid-twentieth century onward, particularly the changing relationship between fiction and criticism, as well as the operations within literary publishing. Currently, she is completing a book titled 'Critical Enchantments,' which explores how novels reproduce literary criticism through critical techniques that counterpose criticism with figures of magic and enchantment. Her work also examines the editorial practices of diverse authors and reflects on the significance of underpaid professional editing in shaping the received literary canons after 1945. Terrell teaches a variety of modules addressing twentieth and twenty-first century literature, gender and sexuality, and publishing at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She contributes to core teaching on the MA in Contemporary Literature and Culture Theory and convenes the undergraduate dissertation module.
Requirements are consistent across King's Business School and Social Science & Public Policy departments for standard Master's entries.
