Biography

Professor Chau-Hsing Su is an Emeritus faculty member in the field of Applied Mathematics. He earned his PhD in Aeronautical Engineering from Princeton University in 1964. Following his graduation, he served as a Ford Postdoctoral Fellow and an assistant professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1964 to 1966. He later joined the Plasma Physics Laboratory at Princeton University before moving to Brown University in 1967. His academic work led him to receive a senior fellowship at the National Atmospheric Research Center in Boulder, Colorado during the years 1973-1974. He has also held visiting professor positions at Beijing University in China from 1981 to 1982 and at Joseph Fourier University in France from 1989 to 1990. His research interests encompass kinetic theory of gases, plasma physics, atmospheric fluid flows, and water waves in randomly forced fluid flows. He has contributed to the understanding of spatial random processes and their applications in dynamical systems, as well as in shock wave propagation influenced by randomly moving objects.
