Biography

Professor Ko received a B.Sc. degree from Tunghai University in Taiwan, an M.Sc. from McMaster University in Canada, and a Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He joined the faculty at Texas A&M University in 1980. His research work has taken him to notable institutions including McMaster University, the Max-Planck Institute for Nuclear Research, Michigan State University, and Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. He has been honored with several awards throughout his career, including the Alexander von Humboldt Senior Distinguished Scientist Award in 1995 and the Texas A&M Association of Students Distinguished Research Award in 2004. He is also a Fellow of the American Physical Society. His current research interests focus on theoretical studies of nuclear symmetry energy effects in heavy-ion collisions and rare isotopes, the signals and properties of quark-gluon plasma produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions, and particle production in hadronic reactions.
