Biography

Che Gossett is a Black non-binary critical theorist specializing in queer and trans studies, aesthetic theory, abolitionist thought, and Blackness studies. Che received a doctorate in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Rutgers University, New Brunswick. They obtained a Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies from Morehouse College and a Master of Arts in History from the University of Pennsylvania. Che participated in the Helena Rubenstein Fellowship at the Whitney Independent Study Program in 2019-2020. Additionally, they received the Ruth Stephan Fellowship at the Beinecke Library, Yale University, in the summer of 2022. In Fall 2022, Che served as a visiting fellow at Harvard Law School’s Animal Law and Policy Program. During the Spring semester of 2023, they spent time at Oxford University as a visiting fellow at the Centre for Life-Writing at Wolfson College, working on a political biography of the queer Japanese American AIDS activist Kiyoshi Kuromiya.
