Biography

Chelsea M. Kaplan is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Michigan Medical School, where she also serves as the Director of Neuroimaging in the Chronic Pain and Fatigue Research Center (CPFRC). Dr. Kaplan completed her undergraduate degree in Brain and Cognitive Science and earned her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Michigan in 2018. Kaplan's research investigates central nervous system contributions to nociplastic pain conditions and aims to identify biomarkers that predict treatment outcomes. She explores the neural correlates of inflammation associated with rheumatic diseases and nociplastic pain conditions. Recently, her work has emphasized studying the behavioral and neurobiological factors linked to the development of chronic pain in children. Her findings seek to enhance understanding of neural vulnerabilities to pain, providing insights into pain mechanisms and identifying at-risk youth for early interventions.
