Biography

Dr. Zhao is an assistant professor in the Department of Genetics at Yale School of Medicine. His primary role is as the assistant director of the DNA diagnostics lab, where he analyzes genomic data for patients, interprets genetic testing lab reports, and supervises the development and implementation of new CLIA compliant testing protocols. In addition to his routine clinical duties, Dr. Zhao is interested in using genomic approaches and sequencing technologies to diagnose and understand rare diseases and their genetic etiologies. He earned his Ph.D. in Genetics from Stony Brook University in 2007, conducting research on Rasopathies in the laboratory of Dr. Dafna Bar-Sagi. Following his doctorate, Dr. Zhao completed postdoctoral training at Stanford University under Dr. Philip Beachy, focusing on the biology and genetics underlying the Hedgehog pathway in mammary development. Dr. Zhao has published numerous papers in prestigious journals, including Science, Nature Genetics, Nature Cell Biology, and Genetics in Medicine.
