Biography

Dr. Zhao is an assistant professor in the Department of Genetics at Yale School of Medicine. He serves as the assistant director of the DNA diagnostics lab, where he analyzes genomic data related to patient conditions and oversees the development and implementation of new CLIA compliant testing protocols. In addition to his routine clinical duties, Dr. Zhao is interested in employing genomic approaches and sequencing technologies for diagnosing and understanding rare diseases and their genetic etiologies. He obtained his PhD in Genetics from Stony Brook University in 2007, during which he studied Rasopathies under the mentorship of Dr. Dafna Bar-Sagi. Furthermore, he completed a postdoctoral training at Stanford University sponsored by Susan G. Komen, where he investigated the biology and genetics underlying the Hedgehog signaling pathway in mammary development and Culler-Jones syndrome. Dr. Zhao has published numerous papers in prestigious journals, including Science, Nature Genetics, Nature Cell Biology, and Genetics in Medicine.
