Biography

Cheng Yen Loo is a sociologist and cultural anthropologist associated with the WA Centre for Health & Ageing at the University of Western Australia (UWA) School of Allied Health. Her research expertise encompasses the fields of ageing, social care policy, falls prevention education, health promotions, social justice theory, migration, workforce wellbeing, and family relationship studies, specifically focusing on culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Currently, she is a research fellow and project manager for the MRFF Safe Recovery Project, which aims to improve outcomes for older hospital patients through an educational-based falls prevention program. Additionally, she is involved in the FECH+ Program, providing telephony support to carers of older patients discharged from hospitals, which evaluates the program's impact on health-related quality of life. Dr. Loo obtained her PhD from UWA, focused on the experiences of ageing and care among Chinese Australians from Malaysia and Singapore. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly addressing education and social justice through a culturally distinct lens.
