Dr. Chengwei Liu

Biography

Chengwei Liu is an Associate Professor at Imperial College Business School, specializing in Strategy and Behavioral Science. He is a trained economist from Taiwan and has worked as a consultant in Singapore. Chengwei received his PhD from the University of Cambridge and has held research visiting positions at prestigious institutions including the University of Oxford, Wharton, New York University, MIT, INSEAD, and ESMT Berlin. His research has been published in leading academic journals such as the Academy of Management Review, Organization Science, Management Science, and Strategy Science, while also appearing in practitioner outlets like the Harvard Business Review. He has been recognized as a leading management thinker by Thinkers50, listing him among the Top 40 business school professors. He is the chair of the Theoretical Organizational Models Society and serves as a Senior Editor for Organization Science. Chengwei’s forthcoming book, "Smart Contrarian: Thinking Differently" will be published by Harvard Business Review Press in 2026 and co-authored with Balázs Kovács from Yale, challenging conventional wisdom in strategic thinking.
