Biography

Dr. Cheri L. M. McGowan is a professor in the Faculty of Human Kinetics at the University of Windsor. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Waterloo and graduate training at McMaster University, where she earned her Ph.D. in Human BioDynamics, focusing on Cardiovascular Physiology and Exercise Rehabilitation. Dr. McGowan also holds an Adjunct position in the School of Kinesiology at Western University and affiliations with various institutions, including the University of Michigan and Wayne State University. Her primary research interests involve improving the well-being of local and global populations by providing simple solutions to reduce cardiovascular disease-related morbidity and mortality. Her current program investigates the contribution of the autonomic nervous system to disease pathophysiology, the effectiveness of traditional exercise-based treatments, and alternative exercise interventions to improve blood pressure regulation. As a strong supporter of research training, Dr. McGowan emphasizes providing students with high-caliber research exposure and collaboration opportunities with various health institutions and research partners across Canada, the USA, and internationally.
