Professor Dr. Cherie Maestas

Biography

Cherie Maestas is a Professor and the Associate Dean for Research, Innovation, and Graduate Education at the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University. Her research focuses on political communication, political psychology, risk attitudes, and legislative responsiveness. Dr. Maestas examines how personal characteristics, such as emotion regulation and personality traits, can influence the effects of media messages and policy framing. She has received funding from prominent organizations, including the Department of Defense, Army Research Office, National Science Foundation, and Carnegie Corporation of New York. Her work has been published in respected journals such as the American Political Science Review, Journal of Politics, American Journal of Political Science, Political Analysis, and Political Psychology. Additionally, she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Political Psychology, Research Design, Introductory Statistics, and Survey Research in Public Policy. Dr. Maestas co-authored the book 'Catastrophic Politics: Extraordinary Events Redefine Perceptions of Government' published by Cambridge University Press in 2012, which explores public responses to media coverage and government performance during catastrophic events.
