Biography

Cherie Metcalf is a Professor at Queen's University, cross-appointed in the Faculty of Law and the Department of Economics. She holds a BA (Hons) and MA in Economics from Queen's University, a PhD in Economics from the University of British Columbia, an LLB from Queen's University, and an LLM from Yale University, where she was a Fulbright Scholar. Her research focuses on Law & Economics, utilizing economic theory and empirical methods to study Indigenous rights and the Supreme Court’s Aboriginal rights cases under s. 35. Metcalf also explores the relationship between legal norms and insights from behavioral economics while addressing environmental resource law issues, particularly regarding climate change. She has co-authored with Ian Keay, winning the Vanderkamp prize for their work in Canadian Public Policy, and has received grants from the Social Science & Humanities Research Council of Canada and the Canadian Foundation for Legal Research. Additionally, she has served as an invited visiting scholar at the University of Colorado and the Vancouver School of Economics at UBC.
