Biography

Cherlie Magny-Normilus is an Assistant Professor at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. Her research focuses on public health efforts aimed at eliminating health disparities among marginalized populations with chronic conditions, particularly type 2 diabetes. She is the principal investigator of a five-year K99/R00 Career Development Award from the National Institute of Nursing Research, which supports her work examining the societal factors that influence behavior change in disease management among Haitian immigrants with type 2 diabetes. Her projects include the development of 'An Sante ak Dyabèt' (ASAD), a culturally-tailored randomized controlled trial designed to improve diabetes self-management and reduce complications for adult Haitian immigrants. Her scholarship interests also encompass self-management interventions, immigrant health, social determinants of health, and community-based participatory research. Prior to joining NYU Meyers, she worked at Boston College Connell School of Nursing as an Assistant Professor and held a faculty position at Regis College, where she directed the policy advocacy efforts of the Haiti Project. She has made significant contributions to healthcare improvements in Haiti through nursing education upgrades.
