Biography

Cheryl Carcel is a Conjoint Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales and leads the Brain Health Program at the George Institute for Global Health. She is a neurologist with a strong focus on stroke care and research. Carcel has been recognized as a Heart Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow and has received the Paul Kroner Innovation Award as well as the NHMRC Emerging Leader Fellowship. She has published over 95 articles and has presented her research at numerous national and international conferences, collectively securing over $4.5 million in grants. Notable projects include leading a grant from the World Heart Federation investigating essential acute stroke care in low-resource settings in Nigeria and Peru and co-leading an NHMRC-funded analysis that explores sex disparities in the management of coronary heart disease and stroke. Carcel serves on the editorial board of the journal Stroke and is an Associate Editor for Cerebrovascular Diseases and Frontiers in Global Women's Health.
