Biography

For the last ten years, Dean Healton devoted to building the academic, service, and research programs at the School of Global Public Health. The school is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health, increased the size of the student body and research funding, recruited top faculty, and added doctoral-level programs while making diversity, equity, and inclusion a priority. Previously, she was the founding President and CEO of Legacy, an organization dedicated to tobacco control. Here, Dean Healton guided a national youth tobacco prevention campaign, credited with reducing youth smoking prevalence to record lows, while launching programs for smoking cessation and public education. Prior to joining Legacy, she held numerous roles at Columbia University including Associate Dean of the Medical School and Assistant Vice President for Health Sciences. Dean Healton has authored over 120 peer-reviewed articles and has received multiple grants related to AIDS and tobacco control in higher education. She is a founding chair of the Public Health Practice Council at the Association of Schools of Public Health and an active member of the public health community, frequently contributing to national and local discussions on public health issues.
