Biography

Cheryl Leggon is a retired Associate Professor at the Jimmy Rosalynn Carter School of Public Policy at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. She is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and Sigma Xi. Her research evaluation work emphasizes policies and programs that enhance participation of race and ethnic groups, particularly women of color, in science and engineering workforces. Recent publications include 'STEM Social Justice: Teaching and Learning in Diverse Settings' (Springer, 2017) and contributions to 'Changing Face of Engineering: The African American Experience' (Springer, 2017). Leggon has presented her research at international conferences in South Africa, Thailand, Spain, and Germany. Before her tenure at Georgia Tech, she directed Women’s Studies and served as an Associate Professor of Sociology at Wake Forest University. She also worked as a Staff Officer in the Office of Scientific and Engineering Personnel at the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences.
