Biography

Cheryl Regehr is a Professor at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto, where she also holds cross-appointments with the Faculty of Law and the Institute for Medical Sciences. She served as Vice-President and Provost from 2013 to 2023 and Vice-Provost for Academic Programs from 2009 to 2013. Prior positions include Dean of the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work from 2006 to 2009 and Associate Professor from 1999 to 2004. Regehr is a Senior Fellow at Massey College and has worked as a Visiting Professor at King’s College London. She has been recognized as a Fellow of the British Academy of Social Sciences and the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare, and she has received various awards for her contributions to the field, including the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award in 2022. Her research areas include forensic mental health, trauma recovery, and decision-making under stress. She has authored six books and over 160 scholarly articles and has received funding from the SSHRC and CIHR for her research. Regehr has a significant background in forensic social work and has served in various capacities providing mental health advice and interventions for organizations and in emergency settings.
