Biography

Cheryl Scott is the president emerita of Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Cooperative, the nation’s largest consumer-governed health care system. She served as president and CEO from 1997 to 2004 and held other senior positions including regional vice president and executive vice president/chief operating officer after joining the organization in 1979. In her chief executive role, Scott crafted and executed a major repositioning strategy that resulted in doubling net worth and achieving unprecedented improvements in patient satisfaction, physician commitment, and staff loyalty. She is active on national community boards and has chaired the Alliance Community Health Plans Healthcare Forum. Additionally, she served on the executive committee of America’s Health Insurance Plans and is currently the board chair of the Health Technology Center as well as a member of the Institute of Medicine’s Committee for Redesigning Health Insurance Benefits and Payment Performance Improvement Programs. Scott is a trustee of the Washington State Life Sciences Discovery Fund and takes an active role in community interests, particularly around issues affecting the uninsured and public education. Furthermore, she chairs King County’s Blue Ribbon Committee on Election Reform and has previously served as the chair of the Alliance Education and the External Advisory Committee for the University of Washington’s Health Administration Program.
