Biography

Chet Moritz received his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, and underwent post-doctoral training at the University of Colorado. He began his research interest in brain-computer interfaces and neural devices aimed at treating paralysis at the University of Washington. He holds the Hwang Endowed Professorship in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering with joint appointments in Rehabilitation Medicine and Physiology & Biophysics. Chet is a recipient of the Allen Distinguished Investigator title and is involved with the Christopher & Dana Reeve International Consortium on Spinal Cord Repair. He serves as the Co-Director of the Center for Neurotechnology and directs the Restorative Technologies Laboratory (RTL), focusing on developing technologies to alleviate symptoms from spinal cord injuries and strokes, and assisting children with cerebral palsy. His research includes studies on stimulation techniques to restore hand function in spinal cord-injured individuals and improve walking in children with cerebral palsy, utilizing collaborations across disciplines. Moritz's work is well regarded, evidenced by multiple accolades and funding from organizations like the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.
