Biography

Chi-Ming Hai is a Professor Emeritus in Molecular Pharmacology, Physiology, and Biotechnology at Brown University. He received his B.S. in Physiology from the University of Toronto in 1978, a M.S. in Physiology from the University of Ottawa in 1980, and a Ph.D. in Physiology from Johns Hopkins University in 1984. Dr. Hai has been teaching at Brown University since 1988 and has a significant background in research focusing on vascular airway smooth muscle cell physiology and various aspects of atherosclerosis, vasoconstriction, and asthma. His research projects include investigating nicotine-induced vascular smooth muscle invasion and exploring the effects of hemoglobin-based oxygen carriers on vasoconstriction. He has received several research grants and has authored numerous scholarly articles in reputable journals. Additionally, Dr. Hai has directed Ph.D. graduates and has notably received the Brown University President’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Governance in 2017, along with multiple Dean's Teaching Excellence Awards from the Brown Medical School.
