Biography

Professor Chi-Wang Shu is a recognized expert in applied mathematics, particularly in the area of numerical methods for conservation laws and computational fluid dynamics. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1982, followed by a PhD in Mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1986. Professor Shu's research interest encompasses high-order numerical methods, particularly weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) methods, discontinuous Galerkin methods, and their applications in various fields, including astrophysics, semiconductor device simulations, and fluid dynamics. He has received several prestigious awards, including the SIAM/ACM Prize for Computational Science Engineering and has been recognized as an ISI Highly Cited Author. In addition to his research, Professor Shu is active in teaching and has offered courses on numerical solutions to partial differential equations and computational fluid dynamics.
