Biography

Chiang-Shan Ray Li is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at Yale University School of Medicine. He graduated from National Taiwan University College of Medicine and received his PhD in Computation Neural Systems from the California Institute of Technology. He has been a faculty member at Yale since 2003. His work employs non-human primate models to understand the neural bases of cognition. His current research focuses on systems neuroscience, combining psychophysics, computational modeling, and brain imaging to explore the circuit mechanisms underlying a multitude of cognitive constructs such as self-control, affect regulation, and reward-related processes. His primary goal is to understand the systems and neural bases of cognitive processes as well as the neural processes that contribute to the etiology of psychiatric and neurological illnesses, with specific emphasis on addiction.
