Dr. Chiara Cappellaro

Biography

Chiara Cappellaro is a Senior Researcher in the Faculty of Linguistics, Philology, and Phonetics at the University of Oxford. Her research expertise encompasses various domains of linguistics, including morphology, historical linguistics, Italian Romance linguistics, bi-/multilingualism, and psycholinguistics. Cappellaro has published extensively in major peer-reviewed journals, focusing on significant themes within Italian Romance linguistics. She has also contributed to edited volumes discussing the structure of Romance languages and has presented her findings at numerous international conferences, including those held at the University of Cambridge and the University of Chicago. Her work has significantly advanced the understanding of grammaticalization in Romance languages, particularly concerning third-person pronouns and the notion of overabundance in morphology. In recent years, her research interests have broadened to include interdisciplinary studies combining psycholinguistic experiments and morphological theory. Currently, she is leading the Morphome Project, employing advanced neurolinguistic methodologies to investigate morphological structures across multiple Romance languages.
