Biography

Chiara Chiavaroli is an anthropologist specializing in environmental anthropology and feminist geography. She investigates the politics of chemical risk management in Colombia, focusing on the interplay between women's reproductive health and toxic environmental degradation. Chiara has conducted extensive ethnographic fieldwork among gold mining and coca farming communities in Colombia and is particularly interested in participatory creative methods. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Bologna, an MRes in Anthropology from University College London, and an MSc in Environment and Development from the University of Copenhagen. She completed her PhD in International Development at the London School of Economics, for which her thesis won the Development Studies Association PhD prize in 2025. Chiara’s research interests include gender, environmental conflicts, and reproductive health in the context of climate change and toxic contamination.
