Biography

Prof. Chiara Daraio's research is concentrated on developing new materials with advanced mechanical sensing properties for applications in soft robotics, wearable devices, and shock/vibration absorption. Her laboratory investigates the physical functions of new materials that arise from their micro- and meso-structure, as well as the effects of ordered and disordered media. The applications of her research include the development of new materials and methods for acoustic imaging, thermal sensing, health monitoring, and the creation of smart tunable fabrics, as well as sustainable materials for packaging and construction. Her work is primarily experimental, supported by numerical and analytical studies that inform the design, fabrication, and validation of new material properties.
