Biography

Chiara Gattinoni is a Lecturer in Physics at King’s College London. She utilizes atomistic computational methods to investigate a diverse range of surface science challenges, including surfaces and interfaces of ferroelectric materials, catalysts for water splitting, and nanoscale lubrication. Chiara holds both a Bachelor’s and a PhD from the Department of Physics at King’s College London. After a two-year hiatus working in financial services, she began developing her multidisciplinary research expertise at Imperial College London (Engineering), University College London (Chemistry), and ETH Zurich (Materials Science). Chiara was awarded the Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship from 2017 to 2020. In 2021, she was appointed as a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at London South Bank University before transitioning to KCL's Physics department in 2023. Her research interests are centered on engineering surfaces for applications aimed at a net-zero future, including low-energy consuming microelectronics, catalytic systems, and low-friction surfaces. Her research also encompasses ferroelectric surfaces, functional materials, catalysis, corrosion resistance of oxide surfaces, and nanoscale surface lubrication.
