Biography

Chiara Libiseller is a Lecturer in Strategic Studies in the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. She joined King’s in August 2025, having previously held positions at Leiden University, the University of Amsterdam, and the University of Innsbruck. Chiara holds a BA degree in Political Science from the University of Innsbruck, a MA degree in International Peace and Security, and a PhD in War Studies from the Department of War Studies at King’s College London. Her research focuses on Western knowledge production regarding war and the effects of strategy on practice. Her doctoral research analyzed the rise and fall of fashionable concepts in Strategic Studies, specifically tracing and comparing the life cycle of concepts such as 'revolution in military affairs', 'counterinsurgency', and 'hybrid warfare' to understand the embedded assumptions and mechanisms that drive waves of interest in the field of Strategic Studies. A book based on her thesis is forthcoming with Oxford University Press. Additionally, Chiara serves as a deputy editor for the Journal of Strategic Studies and is part of the Advisory Committee for Women in International Security (WIIS) UK. She teaches theory and practice of war in the MA in War Studies and strategic theory in the BA in War Studies and is currently unavailable for PhD supervision.
