Biography

Chieh Chen is a research assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Texas A&M University. As a neuroscientist, Dr. Chen has a special interest in mental disorders, particularly focusing on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and the influence of gonadal hormones on the development of the nervous system. His current research projects investigate the etiology of PTSD, examining risk and resilience factors, as well as the neurobiology and neuroanatomy involved. Notable highlights of his career include discovering the mechanisms by which androgen receptor activation by testosterone can induce anxiolytic effects, and the role that female gonadal hormones play in increasing the risk of PTSD development in females experiencing trauma. Dr. Chen received research support from the Department of Defense and the Texas A&M University Clinical Science Translational Research Institute. He has served as a voting executive board member for the Institutional Animal Care Use Committee (IACUC) and has been actively involved in various educational and outreach initiatives.
