Biography

Chloé Arson is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Cornell University and an adjunct faculty member in the Schools of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Institute of Technology. Arson earned her Ph.D. in Geomechanics from École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, France, in 2009. Prior to joining Cornell, she served as an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University from 2009 to 2012, and at Georgia Tech where she progressed from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor from 2012 to 2022, and finally to Professor from 2022 to 2023. Her research interests encompass damage healing rock mechanics, micro-macro modeling of porous media, and computational geomechanics. Notably, she is investigating the use of artificial intelligence to optimize subsurface exploration and enhance multi-scale geomechanical models. Moreover, her laboratory works on utilizing the Discrete Element Method to simulate particulate flow and develop thermodynamic micromechanical models for rock behavior. Arson's teaching includes mechanics-focused courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels. She actively contributes to editorial roles and has been recognized with several awards for her service and research contributions in civil engineering and mechanics.
