Chloe Avril, originally from France, is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg. She completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Université Lumière Lyon II, and earned her Ph.D. in American Literature from the University of Gothenburg, defending her thesis on the utopian novels of Charlotte Perkins Gilman in 2006. Her dissertation was published as 'Feminist Utopian Novels of Charlotte Perkins Gilman: Themes of Sexuality, Marriage, and Motherhood' in 2008. Alongside her academic role, she has contributed to the Swedish Association of American Studies as an active board member and is currently the Vice-President. Additionally, Avril is a co-editor of the Nordic Journal of English Studies and has a robust research agenda focusing on American literature, women's studies, and African American studies. Her notable publications include works addressing the politics of disgust in literature, gender, and class representation in media, and numerous articles on the autobiographies of leaders in the Black Power movement. She teaches literature and cultural studies courses, contributing to the International Language Program and the Teacher Education Program.
