Biography

Chloe Chiou joined the MSK lab in the Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College London as a research associate in April 2013. She completed her PhD in the Neurorehabilitation laboratory in the Department of Physical Therapy and Assistive Technology at National Yang-Ming University in Taipei, Taiwan. Her research focuses on understanding the neurophysiological mechanisms of crossed facilitation in humans using transcranial magnetic stimulation and MRI-diffusion tensor imaging. This work is particularly relevant for individuals who have suffered strokes, as it helps clarify motor recovery processes. In the MSK lab, Chloe investigates motor control of trunk muscles in relation to health and disease, particularly in individuals with low back pain and spinal cord injuries. Her goal is to understand how changes in the function and structure of the nervous system affect patients, and to explore interventions that can specifically target these changes.
