Biography

Chong Chun Wie is an Associate Professor and Deputy Head of Research at the School of Pharmacy, Monash University Malaysia. With a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry (Honors) and a PhD in Microbial Ecology, he has substantial experience in microbial ecology research and gut microbiome science within the context of digital health. His work bridges microbiology, public health, and technology to address global challenges such as diabetes prevention, antimicrobial resistance, and neurodegenerative disorders. Currently, his research interests focus on the gut-brain axis and how diet influences gut microbiome dynamics and host metabolism. Chong leads the Monash Malaysia Microbiome Research Centre and is involved in multiple major research projects, including the 1000MYMicrobiome Project. His interdisciplinary expertise allows him to effectively contribute to studies on the links between diet, gut microbiome, and various diseases, providing insights into public health strategies. He has held leadership roles in education and research, including his previous position as program director for the MSc in Molecular Medicine at International Medical University, where he helped develop a double degree program with Queen Mary University of London.
