Biography

Chris Abbyad is a Clinical Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Texas at Austin, specializing in perinatal theory and the education of undergraduate nursing students. With six years of experience at the Rafic Hariri School of Nursing in Lebanon, Abbyad has contributed significantly to the field of nursing education for over 16 years. He holds a Bachelor’s degree and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) certification from the University of California, San Francisco, as well as a PhD in nursing from the University of Texas at Austin. His research has focused on the experiences of black women in childbirth, addressing topics such as racism in perinatal health and the cultural awareness required for nursing in diverse populations. Abbyad has delivered numerous presentations on Arab and Muslim childbearing practices and has a strong interest in promoting cultural competency in nursing education worldwide.
