Dr. Chris Alden

Biography

Professor Chris Alden teaches International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and serves as the Director of LSE IDEAS. He has a strong focus on the intersection of foreign policy and international relations, particularly in the context of South African foreign policy and China-Africa relations. Professor Alden has authored and co-authored numerous influential works including 'Apartheid’s Stand – Rise and Fall of the South African Security State' and 'China-Africa: Development, Agency, and Geopolitics.' His academic journey includes fellowships at prestigious institutions such as the University of Cambridge and the University of Tokyo. He has also played a vital role in shaping the field of foreign policy analysis with contributions that delve into post-conflict reconstruction and global south dynamics.
