Biography

Chris Butler is an Instructional Associate Professor at Texas A&M University, having joined the Department of Biological Sciences in 2022. He has a diverse academic background, with a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Zoology from Oxford University. Butler's research primarily focuses on biological resilience and evolution, particularly in response to climate change. His past research examined the effects of climate change on the phenology and distribution of birds and other organisms, exploring how various species adapt to shifting environmental conditions. He has also addressed the impacts of invasive species and anthropogenic factors on natural ecosystems. An experienced educator, Butler teaches courses in freshman biology, Chordate Anatomy, and General Ecology, incorporating fieldwork and observational techniques to enrich students' understanding of tropical ecological principles. He has furthered his academic experience as a Fulbright Scholar in Botswana during the 2016-2017 academic year. In addition to his academic responsibilities, Butler enjoys birding and outdoor activities, sharing his passion for nature with students.
