Biography

Chris Cantwell is a Reader in Computational Engineering in the Department of Aeronautics at Imperial College London, United Kingdom. He received his MMath in Mathematics in 2005 and his MSc in Scientific Computing in 2006 from the University of Warwick. He completed his PhD in Scientific Computing in 2009, also at the University of Warwick. His research focuses on developing scalable numerical approaches and high-performance software tools for efficiently modeling and understanding complex physical processes. He is particularly interested in the efficient implementation and application of spectral/hp element methods for performing high-fidelity numerical simulations. Additionally, he explores the potential synergy between numerical modeling and statistical methods, including machine learning and graph neural networks. As a strong proponent of open-source software, he is the project leader of Nektar++, a spectral/hp element framework that facilitates research. His approaches have applications in areas such as aerodynamics, turbomachinery, and nuclear fusion. Furthermore, he has research interests in the biomedical domain and is a member of the Imperial College Centre for Cardiac Engineering, where he combines numerical modeling, signal processing, clinical data, medical imaging, and basic laboratory science through the ElectroCardioMaths program.
