Christopher Cheeseman is a Professor of Materials Resources Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London. He is the Head of the Materials Section and the Director of the UKCRIC Centre for Infrastructure Materials. Funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), he oversees a unique facility dedicated to both fundamental and applied research focused on infrastructure materials. Chris, trained as a materials scientist, began his studies at the University of Warwick and completed his PhD at the University of Oxford, with research centered on the high-temperature properties of ceramics. Since joining Imperial in 1990, he has led the materials-related research associated with waste management, resource efficiency, industrial symbiosis, and the circular economy, as well as low carbon materials and greenhouse gas removal technologies. He is closely involved with the Environmental Engineering MSc course as Course Director and is currently the Course Director for a new MSc program on Advanced Materials for Sustainable Infrastructure. Chris has supervised 120 MSc and PhD projects and published over 220 papers in international journals and conference proceedings. His research has also led to the creation of several spin-out companies, including Novacem, Aeropowder, and Permea.
