Biography

Chris Cunningham is an Associate Professor of Colorectal Surgery at the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, University of Oxford. Appointed as a Colorectal Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2000, he has developed a wide experience in emergency and general colorectal surgery, particularly focused on the management of rectal cancer and pelvic floor conditions. He has taken a leading role in expanding the use of minimally invasive surgery in the UK and serves on the education committee of the national training programme for laparoscopic colorectal surgery. Chris has contributed to national programmes aimed at improving decision-making and patient outcomes in colorectal cancer management. He was a member of the NICE Interventional Procedures Advisory Committee and has held various leadership positions in surgical education and colorectal cancer research. His research interests include the genetics of colorectal cancer and he has supervised numerous doctoral students in related fields. Chris has published extensively, with over 200 publications, and presents lectures nationally and internationally on his areas of expertise.
