Chris Dent is a Professor of Industrial Mathematics at the School of Mathematics. He joined the School as Chancellor's Fellow Reader in September 2016 and was promoted in the summer of 2020. Previously, he was a Research Associate at the Institute for Energy Systems in Edinburgh from 2007 to 2009 and worked at Durham University from 2009 to 2016, holding positions as Research Fellow, Lecturer, and Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences. His principal research interests focus on decision support analysis in energy and infrastructure, particularly in government sectors. Notable projects include leading the Managing Uncertainty in Government Modelling project at the Alan Turing Institute, serving as Co-Director for the Centre for Energy Systems Integration, and providing technical leadership for the National Digital Twin Programme. In the academic year 2023-24, he will hold a knowledge exchange fellowship at the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences while working with the Global Power System Transformation consortium on energy innovation. He has received several accolades, including the IET Mike Sargeant Young Engineer Career Achievement Award in 2012 and the Edinburgh Mathematical Society Impact Award in 2022. Chris enjoys playing the cello and hillwalking, achieving Munroist status in 2009.
